who eats his bread alone, carries his burden alone.
In one of the wool tents in the cold steppes of Central Asia, there lived an elderly man. One day, a man knocked on his door. He said he was very hungry and wanted a loaf of bread. Instead of giving him bread, the elderly man invited the man inside and had his servant prepare a beautiful and generous feast.
The man, who saw this feast, sat at the table in astonishment, ate his fill, and then got up without collecting the bread crumbs. When the elderly man saw this, he felt sadness and turned to the man, saying, ‘Let me offer you a piece of advice, my son. Two years ago, I had invited a friend to my home. After we ate together, my servant cleared the table, and with his hand, he gathered all the bread crumbs and brought them to his mouth. I felt deeply embarrassed in front of my friend and scolded my servant. That night, I had a dream; a voice from the unseen spoke to me, saying, ‘You have lost, oh man, you have lost because of your pride. You were gaining the blessings of this house through that servant. Now go, look at the bread crumbs in your servant’s hand.’ I went and looked, and I saw that the bread crumbs had turned into gold. I jumped out of bed, woke up, and immediately fell at my servant’s feet, apologizing. From that day on, I never left bread crumbs on the table again, and because of that, abundance and blessings never ceased in my house.’ The man understood the message and began to collect the bread crumbs. If we want blessings in our home, wealth, and success in our work, we must respect and value bread, and never waste it.
Our country is among the top ten wheat producers in the world with a production of 20 million tons. Every day, 123 million loaves of bread are produced, and unfortunately, 6.14 million of these are wasted daily. In underdeveloped countries, this rate is much lower. For instance, Mongolia, due to its geographical position, can only meet 20% of its wheat needs and depends on imports for the remaining 80%. Due to unfavorable climate conditions and recent tensions between countries, Mongolia has become unable to meet its wheat needs and is looking to overcome this grain crisis. We should show the necessary respect for bread and, instead of wasting it, share it with those in need
How beautifully our ancestors said, ‘He who eats his bread alone, carries his burden alone…
